Eddie Beyuka Zuni Silver Inlaid Kachina Set

Product Description

Sterling silver handmade and inlaid Zuni bolo tie and pin set by Eddie Beyuka, Circa 1960.  A most unusual and fascinating piece of art, the silver base accommodates 5 pins and a bolo tie with a place for everything to be displayed.  The pin figures seem to be from the Shalako Ceremony and include Shulawitsi “Little Fire God”, Saiyatasha “Rain Priest of the North or Long Horn”, Hututu “Saiyatasha’s deputy and 2 Yamauhakto “The Wood Carrier.”  We have not identified the 3 pieces that make up the bolo tie and tips but they are beautifully made and inlaid, perhaps some sort of ceremonial vessel.

Zuni artist, Eddie “Edward” Beyuka (1920-2002) is best known for his bolos and standing figures of Kachinas and dancers.  His beautiful creations begin with silver which is handworked then channel inlaid with a variety of materials mostly including Turquoise, Coral, Mother of Pearl Shell and Jet.  Eddie Beyuka created stands for his bolos early on so that they could be displayed as sculptures which describes this piece perfectly.
