This beautiful tile was hand-made and hand-painted by well-known Hopi pottery artist, Val Kahe. The flute boy is carrying his flute in his left hand.  The flute dance is done in August at harvest time every other year staggering years with the snake dance.  At 5-1/4″ by 7-1/2″, these are the largest tiles Val has made. Valerie, daughter of Gloria Kahe, comes from a long line of well-respected and highly sought-after artists. She learned to make pottery from her mother and she continues the Hopi tradition of native clay pottery, clay slips, bee-weed (black) and native firing her pottery.
