Product Description
One piece hand-carved and painted Hahai-i/Kachina Mother Kachina by Hopi artist, Allen Joshevema. Allen has carved this Katsina from one piece of cottonwood root. We love the carving of her hair and her sweet face. Allen Joshevema Hahai-i Wuhti Hopi Kachina
According to Barton Wright’s book Kachinas: A Hopi Artist’s Documentary, “This is one of the more colorful of the Hopi Kachinas. Her Personality is that of a sprightly Hopi grandmother. Wherever she appears, she is usually very vocal, an attribute not common among the other Kachinas. In addition to being the mother of the monsters, she is thought of as mother of dogs, and of kachinas. It is her tihu or doll that is given to the very young Hopi babies and captive eagles.”
