Product Description

Gorgeous hand fabricated inlaid 14kt gold ring by Navajo artist, Boyd Tsosie.  This ring is inlaid with fossilized ivory, coral and lapis, circa 1980’s.  In the 1980’s, Boyd created jewelry using patriotic red, white and blue colors.

Boyd Tsosie was born in 1956 and became a fine jeweler very early on in his life.  By the time Tsosie was 23 years old, he was featured in “Arizona Highways-Collector’s Edition-The New Look in Indian Jewelry” which came out April 1979.  He explained that he was mostly self-taught but apparently he also studied under Kenneth Begay who in the 1950’s helped to change the style of Indian jewelry making it more modern looking.

Boyd was known in the 1970’s and 80’s for his very intricate and exquisite leaf and flower designs.  Each leaf and flower was individually made and soldered into place. Some of his pendants and bracelets can include hundreds of individual pieces of gold and silver.  He now is more well know for his beautiful inlay.  He mostly works in gold using exquisite materials such as turquoise, coral, fossilized ivory and sugalite.  He is an amazing stone cutter and can also make beautiful beads which is an art all its own.  Tsosie is not only a fine jeweler but also a very fine person sharing his knowledge freely with others.
