Pete and Dinah Gasper Zuni Fetish Necklace shows off 59 hand carved fetishes. The fetishes are carved out of beautiful fossilized ivory and features bears, wolves, turtles, fish, frogs, owls, tadpoles and birds. It is strung with fossilized ivory Santo Domingo heishi handmade by Harvey Garcia. Dinah was recently in the shop and she said that “Harvey Garcia use to make all of the heishi for their necklaces”. Dinah is the daughter of Edna Leki and the sister of Lena Boone. Coming from a family of esteemed carvers, Dinah began carving as a teenager by helping her famous grandfather, Teddy Weahkee and her mother. Pete studied painting at the Santa Fe Indian School and after meeting and marrying Dinah, he began carving fetishes. Pete unfortunately passed away in 2011 and Dinah is still carving.
