Product Description

Apache Olla Circa, circa 1890’s, woven with willow and devil’s claw over yucca root.

This olla is a bit more challenging incorporating more unusual black patterns around the top with what is likely a letter.  Below each pattern are figures that actually look like bat people.  Then the letter again below the figure and a cross below that. The lines between each pattern are likely a design created by the maker of the olla to separate the darker batmen designs.  I was unable to identify it specifically.  Many life forms appear in Apache basketry, often directly associated with other elements or units, or simply sprinkled here and there throughout the total design.
